Plus, since it measures in at just over 6", it's easier to maneuver into tight spaces than a standard-size drill (especially a corded one). ![]() It was definitely manageable, with allowed me to work for longer periods of time and get more done. This drill is part of Ryobi's brushless compact series, which is designed to be smaller and more efficient without losing power. Working on a project with a heavy drill can be extremely tiresome, so a drill that won’t make my arm sore is a game changer. There was no need to line it up correctly and risk the battery not making a secure connection with the charger. The way that the battery and charger are designed, I was able to easily slide the battery into place with the confidence that it would start charging. The Ryobi charger makes life incredibly easy. It might not seem like a huge deal to some, but having tried quite a few brands of tools myself, one of the things that draws me to the brands that I love are the ease of use.Īt the end of a long day of projects, having to struggle with the battery charger is something that can really bother me. The cordless aspect brings me to another feature that I loved about this drill, which is the battery and charger. The battery is easy to use and interchangeable ![]() ![]() There is enough to worry about when DIYing, and having a cordless drill makes things that much easier because I don't need to worry about getting out an extension cord or finding an outlet to finish a project. In fact, this characteristic is a must have for me. This can be a personal preference, since corded drills overall tend to be more powerful, but I prefer cordless for sheer convenience. The first thing I like about this drill is that it's cordless.

Lower left are sliders for FH-1 Outs 5-8. It just sends basic levels out of a given output. So the idea will be to circle a finger around there or tap around it to get some unpredictable results of a patch. Each little cell there will fire off various, randomly set up levels out randomly placed FH Outputs. ![]() Left of that is an arbitrary level/output grid you can just drag a finger around. The 14 bit resolution with portamento actually sounds pretty dang smooth on the FH-1 outs, but these approaches really allow the FH-1 to shoot off and stutter voltage controlled analog functions right there in the modular. It also was a blast triggering and controlling Maths hitting an oscillator. Super fun and a new thing for me to wrap my head around. I've tested it with the 4MS PQLFO and it's a really cool way to ping and reset those Pingable LFO's. There is also to the right an even smaller strum array for 1-4 that lends it's self to VERY fast strumming. The real focus is on Outputs 1-4 and they are color coded to correspond to the 4MS channels (like on my 4MS Pingable Quad LFO.) In the top left and middle you can two hand control those four channels in mixes and picks back and forth using a smooth slide or gate strum. It gives several, finger sized sliders and strums and multi pads to access the 8 output channels. I also put together a general FH-1 Out Channel controller page. first time I've ever done it (before I have with the Mbrane 11 but today I strummed my modular for the first time and was at it for 40 minutes trying applications and techniques). It's a fun way to play a modular for sure. You can strum gates at very high rates back and forth. Tested the strumming and the FH-1 really responds to it nicely. There will be a page like this for sequencer A and B.Ĭolor is a bit off on this photo for some reason, but you get the idea. There is a similar strum bar on the lower left to use for what ever going out output #8. So you will be stepping and strumming through the sequence manually with this. My intention there is to patch that out (#7 on the FH-1) to the X in on the FH-1. It also has a few controls for LFO and unused faders/outs when using just one sequence.Īt the bottom right is a strum bar that just outputs a high gate at the speed as you touch or strum back and forth. Today I put together the Sequencer page for TouchOSC/FH-1. ![]() I'll post video and more images as it progresses. When it's done it free to use for any who would like it emailed out. or just alternate the buttons with high and low logic (CV levels). For this though, I think I'll have to somehow set the buttons to send a trigger (or just a high CV level) out of output 8 and zero it back down when released. The strum bar is just a whole bunch of tall, skinny buttons that send a midi note on. I got a similar control working quite effectively on a TouchOSC editor I made for the Jomox Mbrane11. I also want to make a "strum bar" at the bottom of some pages to manually, rapidly use output 8 to send input triggers to input X. I'm also going to make a few pages for the 2 sequencers, and another page or more of mixed functions, or simplified controls strategically grouped. Any thing I am missing relevent to LFO so far? This is 1 of 2 pages that will control the LFO's (this is for LFO 1-4). Here is the first page of an editor/controller I'm making in TouchOSC for the FH-1. Thanks all for support and ideas and watching. Again, thank you, OS, for the incredible instruments. Lot's of fun diving deeply into the FH-1. But private equity firms still want their exits and are posturing for potential future IPOs through additional M&A or minority stake sales.Īn early example of that came last September when Blackboard, a Washington DC-based edtech company backed by Providence Equity Partners, announced a merger with Anthology, a Boca Raton, Florida-based provider of higher education solutions backed by Veritas Capital and Leeds Equity Partners. The decline has put the brakes on IPO activity and the edtech sector is no exception. Since hitting a record high in early January, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has fallen 18% amid the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes, war in Ukraine and China’s economic slowdown as it battles the pandemic. Worries about rising inflation and interest rates first surfaced last summer. ![]() By number of transactions, 2022 is on pace to meet 2021’s record haul of 127. In 2021, a record USD 10.2bn-worth of capital raising and M&A deals took place, a nearly 50% increase in value from the prior year, according to Dealogic. That should further boost edtech M&A, which along with fundraising activity had already reached heady levels during the pandemic. Now, many large private equity-backed edtechs that were seen as likely near-term IPO candidates are instead looking to mergers and acquisitions as an interim step or even an alternative exit. ![]() Since then, however, the stock market has tanked. The strongest initial public offering market in years then saw the successful debuts of several edtech companies in 2021, including Coursera, Duolingo, Instructure, Powerschool and Udemy. That fueled record growth for even fledgling education technology companies, prompting robust capital raising at high valuations. When the COVID-19 pandemic closed classrooms, demand for remote learning tools from education institutions and corporations soared. ![]() A sun-blasted, wind-scraped wasteland, Athas is home to multitudes of the most horrifically mutated creatures you'll ever encounter! ![]() But in the early 2000s, writers Geoff Johns and David S. To say why, you have to kind of understand where this character comes from, Linda, to understand why this movie doesn't work. I think this is what happens when you build a movie from the outside in, when you start with the visuals, and you figure everything's going to just come along, we'll figure it out later. Talk to me about what you thought about "Black Adam". YOUNG: So I landed right in the middle on it. ![]() Which made me think walking out of this movie that this would have been a better movie had it been a Justice Society movie with Black Adam, instead of a movie centered around Black Adam. And I thought the movie didn't know what it was doing, until at one point, Adrianna gives a speech that kind of breaks down that point exactly. And what's the appropriate punishment for oppressive regimes. But the one point I do want to make is that for me, the movie was most interesting when it was interrogating who gets to make choices about right and wrong. He's kind of just glowering at the camera, which I know we normally like, but there's not much range there from a man who's very charismatic, who's done a very good job of making us believe that he's funny, having great chemistry with Kevin Hart and all of that. And I think this is his movie, but he's not doing much in the form of acting in this movie. ![]() YOUNG: Ever since his WWE era, I've been, like, following this man from the very, very beginning. Which is weird because I'm a big fan of The Rock. ![]() And then I realized when the movie was over, I wasn't really thinking about The Rock at all. There was a while when I was watching, and I was like, OK, he's doing fine. I think The Rock was a little forgettable. But it's weird because the more superhero-y parts, and the parts that I thought I should like more, weren't that exciting to me. There were parts of it that I really enjoyed. There were parts of this that I really liked. YOUNG: So I think the best way to say my feelings on this movie is that it was just kind of meh, or mid, to borrow a phrase. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed Johnson in the classic "Jungle Cruise". Mo Amer is on hand as Adrianna's brother. That team is led by Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, plus Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Meanwhile, Amanda Waller, played once again by Viola Davis, sends the Justice Society to capture Black Adam before he can become dangerous to the rest of the world. But when Adam comes to life in the form of Dwayne Johnson, his ancient glowering and raging proves difficult to control. Once she sees him, she hopes that he can be the hero her country of Kahndaq needs to free it from ages and ages of occupation and oppression. Sarah Shahi plays a woman named Adrianna, who goes searching for a lost artifact and wakes Black Adam from his tomb. But this story largely stands on its own. In developer CCP Games' own words, EVE Online is a fully community-driven spaceship MMO where each player is free to chart their own path through a massive, sprawling galaxy. Though the MMO is intimidating for new players, if you're looking for an immensely-gratifying, sci-fi sandbox to play in, few games will come as close to scratching that itch as this one does. Sci-fi MMO EVE Online might be notorious for having a hardcore player base and a steep learning curve, but it's better than ever in 2020. except for a decent chunk of hard disk space – ESO is quite the beefy game. The game is free-to-play, like many others on this list, so as usual, you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot. There are guilds to join, homes to buy, and you can marry other players, though it doesn't do much but provide you both with an XP bonus while playing together. You can even embrace your sadistic side and turn into a vampire or werewolf (or just break into someone's house and steal everything that isn't nailed down). Further, you can mix and match gear at will, often with excellent results: play a Sorcerer decked out in full plate and a greatsword, or cast lightning bolts out of a fancy staff as a Dragon Knight. You do pick a class during character creation, but that only dictates three of your available ability trees – all of the other powers at your disposal are unlocked through weapon or armor skill progression and faction quests. The Elder Scrolls Online also stands out from the pack with its free-form character progression systems. And, thanks to the game's plethora of expansions, there's plenty of content to delve into, and an ever-expanding map that one day hopes to cover the entirety of Tamriel. The quests are all fully voice-acted, and you're able to make meaningful choices that can alter their outcomes. You only hit what you're aiming at, and you can block, dodge, and sneak just as you can in other Elder Scrolls games. The combat system is entirely action-based and emulates traditional, single-player Elder Scrolls game combat quite well (for an MMO). That's where The Elder Scrolls Online comes in.ĮSO launched in a rough state, but like many "live" games these days, it bounced back impressively. Until Bethesda creates an Elder Scrolls game with proper coop, or one of the many in-development multiplayer Skyrim mods reaches the finish line, fans of the franchise have been left with very few opportunities to explore the world of Tamriel with their friends. Lesser games have come and gone over the years, long since faded into obscurity. ![]() However, impressive as many MMOs are, like most other genres, it's always been survival of the fittest. You can hop into a World of Warcraft Dungeon queue with players from Germany, Russia, Canada, and France without even realizing it! With few exceptions, the player base of most popular modern MMOs span multiple countries. Best of all, these players can live just about anywhere in the world. These players might cooperate with you, work against you, or do both at different parts of your in-game journey. So, what's the secret sauce that makes MMOs so popular and long-lasting?īroadly speaking, MMOs offer players a sense of freedom, giving them massive open worlds to explore, dozens of side activities to pursue, spooky dungeons to conquer, and epic quests to complete – all in the company of thousands, or even millions, of other players. The genre has been around for decades, and many of its earliest titles like Everquest are still playable to this day. When we look at the video games that have truly stood the test of time, MMORPGs are always near the top of that list. ![]() Tightening financial conditions by third quarter 2023, will lower the S&P 500 price-to-earnings ratio and result in an earnings per share (EPS) recession later this year.
